La Mobilière remains on growth track and significantly increases profit in the first half of the year

mercredi, 9 septembre 2026

The Swiss Mobilière Group increased its premium volume by 3.6% in the first half of 2026. At CHF 446.7 million, half-year profit is up on that of the previous year (CHF 169.9 million), which was considerably impaired in particular by factors including the rockfall in Blatten, Canton Valais. Alongside the underwriting result, the financial result also contributed significantly to the increased half-year profit.

  • Premium volume rose by 3.6% to CHF 3.8 billion in the first half of 2026.
  • Consolidated profit amounted to CHF 446.7 million and was well up on the previous year (CHF 169.9 million), which was impaired above all by the rockfall in Blatten expenses related to the restructuring of the investment portfolio and foreign currency developments.
  • Premium income in the non-life sector rose by 4.9%. La Mobilière therefore again grew above the market.
  • The underwriting result in the non-life business rose over the previous year from CHF -11.1 million to CHF 113.3 million, in particular due to lower natural hazard losses in the first half of the year.
  • The life business recorded strong growth of 4.6% in individual life and pensions. Recurring premiums increased by 2.7%.
  • The financial result came to CHF 474.2 million, which was well above the previous year (CHF 267.2 million) due to positive market developments.
  • Consolidated capital and reserves increased by 3.4% to just under CHF 9 billion compared to 31 December 2025.

CEO Michèle Rodoni pleased with the half-year results

“We closed the first half of our anniversary year with encouraging premium growth that was once again above the market average. We have accordingly further expanded our market position and simultaneously improved our profitability. All in all, la Mobilière had a successful and financially strong first half of the year.”

As announced, la Mobilière is sharing its success with its customers in its capacity as a cooperative particularly generously with CHF 319 million in its anniversary year.

Non-life business

The focus in the non-life business was placed on the sustained balance between growth and profitability. Premium volume rose to CHF 3.2 billion. The financial result increased to CHF 307.4 million (previous year: CHF 179.8 million). Profit in the non-life business simultaneously rose to CHF 345.7 million (previous year: CHF 135.6 million).

The rockfall in Blatten severely impaired the loss ratio in the first half of the previous year. The loss ratio decreased by 5.2 percentage points to 66.2% owing to lower natural hazard losses in the first half of 2026. The cost ratio fell from 27.1% to 25.9%. Profitability in the non-life business improved despite the deliberate forgoing of general premium adjustments for existing contracts in the mass business. At 94.3%, the combined ratio was significantly down on the previous year (100.6%). However, the most recent hail events in various regions of Switzerland will not affect the loss ratio until the second half of the year.

Life business

Premium volume in the life business was altogether slightly down on the previous year. Individual life and pensions recorded strong growth well above the previous year at 4.6%. Recurring premiums in individual life and pensions grew by 2.7% (previous year: 3.5%), once again outstripping the market. The focus in occupational pension insurance was more on improving the portfolio’s profitability than on growth. Premium volume in this highly competitive market therefore fell as planned.

The financial result in the life business increased by around 73% to CHF 151.2 million (previous year: CHF 87.5 million). Profit likewise rose to CHF 79.2 million (previous year: CHF 29.5 million).

Financial result and investment performance

Thanks to the positive overall market development, la Mobilière achieved a very good financial result of CHF 474.2 million in the first half of 2026. The key drivers were high capital gains, particularly in the case of gold, profit realisations in connection with the IPO of MobiFonds Swiss Property, and a significantly improved foreign currency result compared with the previous year. The latter resulted primarily from the positive performance of the US dollar versus the Swiss franc.

La Mobilière is celebrating its 200-year anniversary with its customers

La Mobilière is sharing its success particularly generously with its policyholders during the anniversary year – by 50% more than in previous years. Altogether, CHF 319 million is being returned to policyholders in the period from July 2026 to June 2027.

La Mobilière celebrated the kick-off of its anniversary year together with the public on the Bundesplatz in Berne at the end of January. This was followed from March by “Suissepartout”, an initiative comprising 80 discovery routes throughout Switzerland developed by staff from the general agencies with close ties to their regions. Numerous local customer events across Switzerland this year are also aimed at strengthening customer proximity.
